The Modeling for Sustainable Development Chair (MPDD) was created in 2008 and renewed in 2013 and then 2019. It centers around the Mines ParisTech Centre for Applied Mathematics (CMA) and the International Center for Research on the Environment and Sustainable Development (CIRED), laboratory of the École des Ponts ParisTech.
The ADEME, EDF, GRTgaz, RTE, SCHNEIDER ELECTRIC, TOTAL and the Ministère de la Transition Écologique et Solidaire of the Direction générale de l’Énergie et du Climat (DGEC) are the Chair’s current partners. They will provide five years of financial backing for this project. The Chair aims to firmly establish an internationally recognized prospective modeling center in France devising innovative tools to improve understanding of sustainable development issues within companies and different areas of public deliberation. In adopting a prospective approach, the Chair establishes its vocation to facilitate decision-making by elaborating long-term scenarios focusing on energy and climate policies, industrial development, technological and societal choices. The Chair will also boost the international profile of its co-founding teams and their partners by organizing international symposia and Summer Schools, by increasing its presence in international expert bodies such as the IPCC, and through the publication of its scientific work.
